According to the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) there are three distinct crime risks associated with letterflaps in doors.
Fishing (theft via a letterflap), Lock manipulation (the ability to open the lock via the letterflap), and Arson (a firework or flammable liquid poured through the letterflap).
There are continually shocking stories in the news of people living in fear of these crimes.
We were approached by an Arson task force in the UK to produce a solution. We now have 3 options – Flaplock 1, for domestic/ private use, Flaplock 2, a heavier duty tested Secured by Design approved product, and Homeguard, a long established product of ours used to fit at the rear of a front door to contain mail and fire. All manufactured in the UK.
Flaplock 1
Patent no. 0802800.3
Simple, neat and affordable. In its locked position any unwanted mail, papers and offensive items cannot be deposited into the premises through the letterbox, thereby reducing the incidence and threat of fire, vandalism, intimidation and theft.

Void properties are secured, the elderly and vulnerable can have piece of mind, as premises are secured as and when required.
There is the option of locked or unlocked to suit and if preferred can be left locked at all times and an individual mailbox e.g. Eurobox can be fitted on the external wall to receive mail delivery.
See New Homes Guide 2010 page 42 – 21.19.1 for Police recommendations

FlapLock 2 - FL05
Secured by design approved LPCB 1175 Issue 6, Security level 1
Flaplock fl05 is a heavier duty version of the standard Flaplock. The material of construction is 1.5mm steel and in places is reinforced to 3mm thick. The locking method is by steel pegs which, if forced causes the lock to become more positive.
The mounting method of fl05 is by way of dome headed bolts which travel through the door and do not rely on the integrity of internal fixings. Full fixing instructions, drilling template and fixings are provided with each Flaplock.

The solution
A universal ‘flaplock’ that can be fitted quickly and easily onto any existing and new properties. This provides peace of mind not only to those living with a concern, but also to empty, void or vulnerable properties that are occasionally or permanently unoccupied.
"This tried and tested product has now become an essential accessory in the battle against intrusion. We aim to put the power back in the hands of the house owner" Ian Brown, Chairman.
Since this product was launched we have had so much feedback from members of the public using this product, who have for years lived in fear of threats, intimidation, arson attacks, and those maintaining void and empty properties.
It is now commonly used by Fire and Police authorities throughout the UK as a quick and economical solution to a growing problem.
